Aside

Have to Start Somewhere

My arrival was a snowy Minnesota Saturday in 1961, under the zodiac sign of Aquarius and following the recent election of president, John F Kennedy.  My parents had the unfortunate challenges of trying the get through the snow and make it to the hospital before I made my appearance.  Getting the car stuck in the alleyway and the futile attempts to help from my brother to clear a pathway were not making the pending birth any easier.  Fortunately, my sister and her husband arrived with the use of tire chains on their car.  A transfer of my mom, along me wanting my freedom of the womb, was made to their car and off all of us traveled to the hospital.

At 6:15 p.m. Dr. Corneia assisted with my delivery in room 206 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis.  There I was: a blue eyed, brown haired, seven pound-one ounce, twenty-one inch bouncing baby boy.

That’s how my story began 56 years ago.  It’s amazing everything that has happened in one’s lifetime.  As I think back, the recalled events in a life seem to flash by as the years mend together.  The experiences make us who we’ve become and who we were at the various stages of our live.  I look back through filters of the current me, subconsciously readjusting the feelings and emotions.  When I am feeling down, the past seems to have been gloomy, and I remember the falls and the pain.   When my mood lifts a little, the memories are filled with adventures and happier times.  Of course, memories are only mental reconstructions – pieces of neural activity strung together.  The memories my brain constructs are only bits of truth from my past, but they are mine and I treasure them nonetheless.

This is my first ever blog.  I hope to fill it with life stories, learning, interests, and new adventures.  Along the way, I hope to share some thoughts (hopefully, worthy) and some educational value (news, experiences), and, maybe, some life direction (a philosophical side).  I’m learning as I write.  Personally, therapeutic, and a reference location for information.

First Post.
